Covers & cages

Gas cylinder cages, ventilated and lockable

Gas bottles have to be outside, upright, ventilated and secure. That is a safety requirement, not a styling one — so the only question left is whether it has to look like a cage.

Why it is built this way

Ours are built as ventilated enclosures: open at top and bottom so gas cannot pool, lockable so the bottles stay yours, and sized properly around 9 kg, 19 kg or 48 kg cylinders.

They ship flat-packed with fixings. Because they are aluminium rather than steel, they are light enough to position and fix without help, and they will not rust streak down your wall in a coastal climate.

One honest note: installation of the gas system itself must be signed off by a registered LP gas installer. We build the enclosure; the certificate of conformity comes from your installer.

  • 01

    Ventilated by design

Open at high and low level so nothing can pool. This is the part that matters and the part cheap cages get wrong.

  • 02

    Sized to real bottles

Drawn around 9 kg, 19 kg and 48 kg cylinders — single or double — with room to swap them out.

  • 03

    No rust streaks

Aluminium, not painted steel. It stays looking like a considered detail instead of a maintenance job.

How this one gets made

Four steps, one workshop

  1. Step 01

    Measure

Send the opening. Rough is fine — a photo with a tape in it beats a perfect drawing.

  2. Step 02

    Draw

We draw your actual panel at full scale and you approve the CAD before anything is cut.

  3. Step 03

    Cut

CNC laser cut, then powder coated or sprayed, on our own machines in Prospecton.

  4. Step 04

    Fit

Flat-packed with fixings and a drill template, or fitted by our team or an approved installer.

They told me straight that the job needed installing rather than flat-packing. I would rather hear that up front than find out on a ladder.

Questions people actually ask

What are the rules for storing gas bottles in South Africa?

LP gas cylinders must be stored outdoors, upright, in a well-ventilated position and away from drains, openings and ignition sources. Distances and quantities are governed by SANS 10087. Our cages are built to be ventilated and secure, but the compliance sign-off for the installation itself must come from a registered LP gas installer.

Do I need a certificate?

A Certificate of Conformity is issued by a registered LP gas installer for the gas installation. We supply the enclosure, not the certificate — always use a registered installer.

Can it hold two bottles?

Yes. Double versions are standard for all three cylinder sizes, and we can draw a wider one if you want a spare in there.

Is it lockable?

Yes, with a padlock hasp on the door. Bottles walk otherwise.

Tell us the opening. We’ll draw the panel.

Rough dimensions are fine — we confirm every measurement on the CAD before cutting. No obligation, and no pushy follow-up.
